What is a Pharmacy Technician?
A pharmacy technician is a professional in the pharmacy setting who works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to assist in pharmacy activities that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. Over the years, the responsibilities and employment requirements of technicians has increased, resulting in a higher demand of pre-employment education.
Where can I work as a Pharmacy Technician?
A career as a pharmacy technician is a great way to make a difference by promoting patient care and sites for employment can be found everywhere! Pharmacy technicians may be employed in a range of settings including: retail (independent, chain, franchise), hospital, home health, long-term care, mail-order, nuclear, and military.
When will I attend classes?
Pharmacy Technician courses are offered Monday–Friday, 8:30a.m.-2:50p.m.
What are my duties as a Pharmacy Technician?
Job duties will differ slightly upon the setting, but some examples are: compounding oral solutions, ointments, and creams; preparing IV mixtures; preparing chemotherapeutic agents; medication dispensing; purchasing and billing; and data entry.
What will I learn in the Pharmacy Technician program?
During your education here at OIC, you will focus on learning proper pharmacy procedures (aseptic technique, prescription processing, legislations, etiquette), the basics of pharmacology, performing dosage calculations, and preparing for the PTCB National Examination through lecture, laboratory, and externship experiences.
What is an Externship?
Part of your training as a Pharmacy Technician includes spending time in a real pharmacy. The OIC Pharmacy Technician program requires students to spend 120 hours working in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting. You will work with the Career Specialist at OIC to set up an externship at the end of your course of study.
How long is the Pharmacy Technician program at OIC?
600 Clock Hours/ Approximately 5 months
When will I attend classes?
Students enrolled in our Pharmacy Technician program attend classes Monday – Friday, 8:30a.m.–2:50p.m.
There are no evening classes currently available for Pharmacy Technician.
What credential will I receive as a Pharmacy Technician?
Upon successful program completion, you will be registered for the PTCB National Exam (included in your tuition).

Are there prerequisites for the Pharmacy Technician program at OIC?
You must have a High School Diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old. You must participate in an admissions interview and pass an entrance exam.
Will the credits I earn at OIC transfer to another school?
OIC Training Academy currently does not hold articulation agreements with any other institution. Courses completed at OIC may or may not transfer to other institutions. Students must contact the receiving institution to verify the acceptance of OIC courses. OIC does not accept credits or courses from other institutions.
