What is a Youth Services Worker?
A Youth Services Worker is someone who works with children and/or adolescents who have been placed in youth facilities, including crisis facilities, residential treatment facilities, and other youth treatment agencies throughout West Virginia.

Youth Services Workers work with children and adolescents in all types of settings. The Youth Services Program at OIC will prepare you to work in residential and crisis shelter facilities. Below are a few of the providers we have worked with in the past:

What are the duties of a Youth Services Worker?
Youth Services Workers work directly with youth placed in residential and crisis facilities. Their duties include supporting children and adolescents in daily living activities, supporting children and adolescents through crisis, and working with social workers and counselors to increase therapeutic outcomes.
How long is the Youth Services Worker Training program?
The Youth Services Worker Training program is 600 clock hours. Approximately 5 months.
What type of training will I receive in the Youth Services Worker program?
You will attend courses in Human Development, Psychology, Crisis Intervention, Behavior Management, Issues in Youth Services Work, Foundations in Youth Services Work, Teamwork and Communication, and Professional Development. You will also spend 150 hours training in a crisis shelter or residential facility for children and/or adolescents. Click here for more information about the Youth Services curriculum.
Are there any prerequisites for the Youth Services Worker program
You must have a GED or high school diploma.
You must be at least 21 years old.
You must have a valid West Virginia driver’s license.
You must be able to pass a criminal and Child Protective Services background check.
You must pass an entrance exam and admissions interview.
